High-performance Computer Systems for Research, Education & Industry!

Executive Summary

NOVARION was founded in 2004 by the managing partner Georg Gesek. As a physicist, quantum computer scientist and electronics engineer, he has been researching the basics of quantum information theory and the further development of quantum computers based on it for 25 years now.

For more than 15 years NOVARION has been known in the market for the construction of highly specialized IT infrastructures and has made an extraordinarily respected name for itself in the field of server and storage systems. The company, with its headquarters in Vienna and further branches in Munich and California, develops and produces customized high-tech computer systems for scientific data centers, industry (focus on Industry 4.0), government organizations, research institutions as well as financial service providers and companies.

Who we are

NOVARION Systems is one of the technologically leading computer manufacturers. We are able to provide life-cycle managed and state-of-the-art integrated systems to our thousands of customers in various industry sectors, as well as scientific and governmental organizations.

Our Mission

NOVARION is dedicated to the creation of computers that serve a better future for mankind. This starts with the development of machines with low energy requirements and ends with artificial intelligent systems.

How do we do it

At NOVARION open-minded people from different disciplines work together. Like physicists, hardware & software engineers, market and technical analysts. In an environment of passion and determination for future science and technology, the NOVARION community outperforms most other organizations in terms of efficiency. Furthermore, NOVARION invites all interested specialists to collaborate with the unique NOVARION ecosystem. Our doors are always open for such people.

The Management Team

Georg Gesek - Founder & CEO

Ernst Fankhauser – CTO

As an electrical engineer, IT entrepreneur and colleague of Georg Gesek at Ingram Micro in the 1990s, Ernst Fankhauser developed and marketed his own computer systems early on. In 2005, Gesek invited him to NOVARION, where Fankhauser implemented the Build-to-Order system and played a key role in many product launches. Today he is responsible for the supply chain, production and further development of the company's conventional computer technology.

Rudolf Herold – Head of Product Management

The software & information engineer joined NOVARION in 2008 as a production technician and developed into head of product management and CTO Ernst Fankhauser's right hand man. Rudolf Herold creates the basic conditions for the configuration possibilities of our products and trains the sales staff.

Daniel Fontner – Head of Product Development

The process technology engineer from the chemical industry started as a lateral entrant in product development at NOVARION in 2017. Today, he heads this division, where he works closely with Georg Gesek on the implementation of new ideas to get the most out of today's semiconductor-based computer systems.

Andreas Mandl – Preferred Account Manager

The graduate industrial engineer & project manager could be won in 2019 for the team. He brings with him relevant experience in the sale of major IT projects, including from the largest system house and the largest technology group in Europe. He is responsible for the excellent relationships with the top end customers, where he implements complex projects in their data centers and places NOVARION's products there.

History & Milestones

The quantum physicist and computer scientist Georg Gesek founded NOVARION Systems in 2004 with the intention of developing high-performance computer systems. In order to generate the first cash flows, he sold the first systems, which he developed together with Austrian universities, to other university institutes. The following year, Gesek's global network of computer parts manufacturers (ODMs), which he had built up during the 1990s through his work for Ingram Micro, the world's largest distributor of computer components, enabled him to develop an order-related system for data center server and storage systems. With this manufacturing program NOVARION was able to develop, adapt and produce highly flexible, application-optimized computer systems for the industry.

Between 2013 and 2018, NOVARION expanded its business with its new industrial brands QUANTON® for server systems, TACYON® for mid-range storage systems and PLATINSTOR® for high-end storage systems to all data center operators.

By setting up an efficient in-house sales team, a database of currently 30,000 potential customers in the DACH region could be created. With a five-person sales team and more than 50 system houses as trading partners, the constant exchange with interested parties and customers via the CRM system developed in-house is guaranteed.

Due to the high demands on performance and competitiveness as well as regulatory requirements (e.g. DSGVO), companies of a certain size and complexity also use their own computer infrastructures despite the large cloud service offering. This is exactly where NOVARION gradually became more attractive for data center operators with its highly individual, industry-compatible, hardware and software-integrated computer solutions, until the company finally conquered its three customer segments: industrial, government and scientific organizations.
