The AI Life Cycle is much older than anticipated
Many analysts refer to Generative Pretrained Transformer (GPT) Networks, which are the foundation of our modern Large Language Models, as premature and a hype in the sense of Gartner’s often cited so-called Hype Cycle. But we suggest, as shown in the right picture, the AI Life Cycle becoming mature and entering its stability phase right now.
As depicted, the unreasonable hype after first impressive results with machine learning in the 2000s which predicted fully autonomous cars built by IT companies like Google and Apple went down after about a decade as we learned the world is still too complex to be efficiently trained by machine learning algorithms. But further exponential hardware development in the space of parallel processing like Tensor Flow- or Graphics- up to Neuromorphic- Processors gave rise to efficient Deep Learning Machines based on Neural Networks. In 2016, AlphaGo by Deep Mind / Google provoked astonishing surprise by beating one of the best human champions in the highly complex strategy game of Go with the use of exactly this new technology.
From this moment on it was clear that Artificial Neural Networks are the basis of what we call today “Artificial Intelligence” or AI in the sense, that the Neural Networks are inspired by biological Neuronal Networks in both the architecture and function but based on our own technological hardware. Thus, AI undergoes not a singular hype, as often misunderstood, but is the result of consequent further development under a decades long evolutional process to become able to solve arbitrary problems by the means of technological systems, a capability which is described as intelligence.
NOVARION, as the subsidiary of Quantum Science & Systems understands the theoretical and technological implications of such Artificial Neural Networks which are at the core of the industry in the 21st century.
It is quite remarkable that the Nobel Prizes 2024 for Physics and Chemistry have been both awarded for this foundational work on Artificial Neural Networks (ANN)! The Physics Nobel Prize points out the fundamental work on understanding ANN as governed by fundamental physical laws which reach back to discoveries in the 19th century. The Nobel Prize for Chemistry on the other hand has been awarded for the exceptional efficient application of such ANN to solve hard problems around the structure of complex molecules, the Proteins in the human body. These are impressive examples how deeply rooted all Neural or Neuronal Networks are within the concepts of our world we live in and ultimately the whole universe. Therefore, AI, the technology which is built on such Artificial Neural Networks is expected to change everything in the industrial verticals and beyond in our society. NOVARION provides solutions with this fascinating new technology for prosperity and peace.
