* Kick-off of the cooperation with “FHTW-Summer School 2022: Quantum Technology” from August 16 to 19, 2022. On August 18, the FH Technikum Wien invited partners and media to the Conference Dinner. Registration was made under jobs@technikum-wien.at. Requests for photographic material at jobs@technikum-wien.at.

QMware AG and FH Technikum Wien announced a unique initiative to strengthen the quantum computing ecosystem on August 16 in Vienna. Behind QMware are Terra Quantum AG and Novarion Systems GmbH with the world’s first data center in Vienna, which combines classical high-performance computing and quantum computing and makes QMware AG a pioneer in the field of quantum computing.

The company provides a private cloud where industry partners are already developing and deploying quantum-based algorithms and real-world applications. The start of the cooperation will intensify the exchange between the innovative cloud provider and science in the field of quantum technology. The aim is to optimally prepare young talents for the dawning age of the key technology quantum computing with the help of application-oriented research methods, to promote the mutual exchange of knowledge and to jointly drive forward projects.

The cooperation kicked off with the “FHTW Summer School 2022: Quantum Technology”, which took place from August 16 to 19. For one week, tutors and more than 50 students deliberately invested their free time to familiarize themselves with the theoretical principles of the technology and to try their hand at the first practical applications. As part of the cooperation, QMware offered practice-oriented basic and advanced seminars. Students were also given access to QMware’s Software Development Kit, which they used to develop and test their own applications. On August 18, Technikum invited partners and media representatives to the conference dinner. Registration was made under jobs@technikum-wien.at. Photo material can be ordered via jobs@technikum-wien.at Starting in the winter semester, QMware AG will also be represented with its offerings in the computer science program. The University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien wants to expand the range of courses offered to include quantum computing and install it as a permanent specialization in both the bachelor’s and later the master’s degree programs.

The continuous dialogue between industry and science as well as the political promotion of quantum technology are of crucial importance for the further growth of the Austrian and European quantum ecosystem. The U.S. and China are considered leaders in the global quantum race, but the European Union is steadily catching up: In addition to providing much higher funding, the European research landscape produces the highest number of graduates who could work in this field. Nevertheless, there is already a serious shortage of experts in the field. Expanding teaching and research is critical to closing this gap. The joint initiative of QMware and Technikum Wien is of crucial importance. Together, they aim to strengthen the Austrian and European quantum ecosystem through an application-oriented teaching and research approach and to exploit the potential of the European location.

Gerd Krizek, Department Applied Mathematics and Physics, University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien: “Quantum computing is already playing a role in industry and business. Especially in international competition, we see this as a decisive key technology. We want to prepare our students for that today.”

Lukas Mairhofer, Applied Physics Competence Center, University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien: “The collaboration with QMware is a strategically important step for the development of competence in the field of quantum computing. We see the need to incorporate application-oriented teaching into our curriculum early on.”

Georg Gesek, CTO QMware: “We need quantum computing expertise in Europe now! In January, we opened the world’s first hybrid Quantum Cloud Data Center in Vienna. The initiative with Technikum Wien is another important step to further build the Austrian and European Quantum ecosystem. The cooperation with Technikum Wien offers a great opportunity to jointly impart professional and practical know-how for this future technology. We are very much looking forward to this exemplary collaboration between industry and teaching, in which students are accompanied and supported on their academic path.”

Dr. Florian Neukart, CPO Terra Quantum:“Throughout my career, I have worked at the intersection of business and science and benefited from this combination. Europe depends on the application-oriented education of young talents in the field of quantum technology. I’m extremely excited to be involved in the initiative in my role as a faculty member and to provide students with insight into specific industry application examples.”

About the cooperation
The joint initiative of QMware and Technikum Wien was launched in 2022. The unique initiative forms the interface between an innovative quantum cloud provider and academia. The goal of the cooperation is to optimally prepare young talents for the dawning age of quantum computing with the help of application-oriented research methods, to promote the mutual exchange of knowledge and to advance joint projects. Within the framework of the cooperation, QMware offers practice-oriented basic and advanced seminars in linear algebra, quantum physics and hybrid algorithm programming. Students will also have access to QMware’s Software Development Kit, which they can use to develop and test their own applications. QMware will also support the students in preparing their bachelor theses.

About the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien
The UAS Technikum Wien is Austria’s university of applied sciences for technology and digitalization. Since its founding in 1994, it has produced 13,000 graduates. Currently, 4,500 students are being trained in 30 bachelor’s and master’s degree programs to become top executives for the economy. About QMware
QMware AG is headquartered in St. Gallen, Switzerland and operates subsidiaries in Austria and Germany. The core product is the hybrid quantum cloud of the same name. It bridges the gap between high-performance and quantum computing. In doing so, the company is pursuing an innovative hybrid approach that is already making the benefits of quantum computing available to customers today: the integration of classic high-performance computers with quantum processors. Physical as well as emulated, or simulated qubits, which cooperate in virtual form in a so-called intermediate representation, serve as the basis. This setup enables the QMware Cloud to process hybrid quantum algorithms particularly efficiently. Virtualizing quantum processors in this way is considered a new benchmark in quantum computing. The company offers its novel hybrid quantum computing technology as an alternative to best-in-class cloud computing solutions. A unique selling point is the outstanding level of security and data protection that QMware provides by clearly aligning its offerings with the European General Data Protection Regulation. In addition, QMware supports service offerings according to GAIA-X standard. In the global IT industry, these data processing guidelines represent the highest security as well as interoperability features. QMware AG is on LinkedIn and online at https://qm-ware.com/.
